Quelin swallowed before answering.
"I know not who this Alaric or Emperor is. My quarrel is with the wizards who outlawed me from the start. From my red eyes to my strange gifts was completely repelled and disgusted by wizards. The only reason I survived the headaches was by luck. My gift saved me from itself. It doesn't make sense no, but I survived. Your man, Lord Rahl, your man Allister Cot was the reason of my exile. He beat me from a inch of death and swore to me should I ever return that Lord Rahl would see i suffer a fate worse than dying and meeting the keeper first hand. Well after that I spent all my time, in exile, planning how to take my revenge. And unless you give me reason otherwise I swear on the life of my brother that you will die. A brother taken and killed by Mord Sith in front of my own eyes. He was only trying to protect me. So you had better give me a reason not to kill you or one day i swear, even if I have to die to complete the task, extracting revenge for both my brother and I will be more than worth it."
He sagged his head, tears starting to well in his eyes.
"You better kill me now or at least give me a damn good reason not to kill you. That's all you'll get from me"

Sariah was obviously torn. Her duty screamed for her to drive her agiel home and leave this man a quivering shell, yet she stayed her hand, something about his story made no sense to her. All her life she'd had the loyalty of the Mord Sith drilled into her, and been told what a good man the Lord Rahl was. Though her training seemed to be something that such a good man would not condone, she realized that sometimes even good men had to do things that were necessary, but not right. This man's story though had brought all of the old questions into her mind. In the end though, she knew that she would do what she had to for Lord Rahl, because if she didn't then everything she'd been trained for would mean nothing. Still, the story about Mord Sith killing his brother, yet not finishing him off too did seem a bit off to her, so she didn't act on the impulse to allow him any more freedom just yet.

Maliss shrugged. "Things like this happen. I don't blame you." she said to Deneric. "I will gladly accept your offer.. Once you desice what to do about this situation." she added. She felt a little unsure of how to proceed, most confessors would have the truth from the assassin in moments with but a touch from their power, but she had clearly not been the target, and felt that it was not her place to offer. Though she would not hesitate even a second in acting if the man proved to be too much for them to handle.

Quelin sat with his head hung, not knowing quite what to think. I awaits now at the mercy of Lord Rahl and his Mord Sith. Likelihood is that he could escape using his gift, but he my die in the process. He wouldn't risk that without at least hearing what Lord Rahl had to say for himself. He didn't particularly like killing people, but he had to. HE had to avenge his brother. Nobody else would. He could hardly sleep with the memory of his brother's screams and agony haunting him. If he didn't find a way to put these hauntings to rest, he might himself go crazy.

Deneric watched the man before him with unblinking eyes.
"Allister Cot is no friend of mine. He was a fanatic who believed that Mord-Sith should still be trained the old way. That they should be broken. My father agreed with him. I do not. When I became the Lord Rahl, I put an end to his practices. He was more sadistic than I thought. When I found out what kind of things he was doing, it made me so angry that I intended to execute him. But he learned of my intent, and escaped."
He looked the man in the eyes. "I am sorry. I fear that you have suffered at the hands of my father. No one deserves to go through what you have gone through," he looked sadly at the two Mord-Sith on either side of the man. "No one."

Quelin raised his chin to look at Lord Rahl. He couldn't believe that it would be that simple.
"And my brother? Who's command killed him? Why target him? He wasn't even gifted. He was just an ordinary man, not a care in the world except his family. He deserves justice. I can't believe it would be that simple."
The rage returned to his eyes. Them being the only visible part of his body, the rage made his eyes gleam bright. His brother, his closest friend, told him to run and not look back. He didn't listen and was forced to watch his brother's execution first hand. He swore that day that anyone involved would pay, and if what Lord Rahl says is true, he is calling in that justice.

Aleister's eyes were hazel again. Here was the root of the agony in this man's soul. Aleister had already noticed the shift in the air... for now, no one was intending fatality, or was at least too preoccupied to do so. Aleister had subtly let a thread of Subtractive reopen a drizzle of blood from his wounded arm in case the man had decided to fight or flee. The line of blood now ran onto his palm unnoticed, as Aleister took this information in. Aleister was too young to remember anything about the prior Lord Rahl, though he had always heard him reknowned as a prodigious battle wizard. He had also heard him just: this information didn't quite fit, although it might explain much- like why the current and obviously benign Lord Rahl had an inner circle of hardened Mord-Sith when breaking them had long since been abolished (or so he had thought). His wound sealed itself again and the line of blood dried out before it could quite drip off his fingers. Aleister absent-mindedly reabsorbed the blood before speaking. "... I understand loss better than you know. I know almost but not quite as much about revenge. Revenge can consume you, if you let it. If you dedicate yourself to it utterly, once vengeance is achieved, nothing is left behind. To see justice is done, no matter the cost, can be a noble thing. If you have sought vengeance, there is little left for you, other than to see this Cot man put down. However, you came to question... I think you came to seek justice." Aleister nodded. He had felt the man's sorrow even before he knew his tale.

Sariah stared at Deneric for a moment, finally nodding her understanding of what he had said. Everything she had heard about him had been confirmed by those words. she then turned back to her captive "You said before that your brother was killed because he protected you. If that is the case... Then he would not have been the target anyway. Mord Sith are not normally used for such tasks on the ungifted..." she said a little sadly. "They would have wanted you."

"well this just makes everything so much better..." The rage in his eyes gleamed exquisitely bright. He turned his attention to the Mord Sith who seemed to be caught off guard by the gleaming red eyes. "So then why was I a target them hmm?"

Rahl looked to Aleister and bowed his head in appreciation. Then he returned his attention to the man on his knees before him.
"I have lost those close to me before. I understand your pain. But you must understand that Cot was a violent and irrational man. He either had motives I cannot fathom, or simply enjoyed pain and suffering so much that he did not need them," his tone slowly changed into one of disgust as he spoke of the man. "I don't know who had him killed, or why. But I swear on my life, and on my honour as a man, it was not on my orders."

Quelin's attention once again shifted. His attention now devoted to Rahl
"So if it wasn't on your orders then whose? And what do you intend to do about it? I've already killed Cot days ago, So I can't extract much more revenge from him. But I can swear no violence from me towards your life, provided you're not lying to me. If you're lying to me you will have to deal with me personally. I would only make one request. If you're not lying to me, then I want, well need to know who is responsible for my brother's death."
He was deadly serious. The rage in his eyes calmed and morphed into deadly seriousness. This was the most important thing in his life.

In response to Quelin's question Sariah could only shrug. "Allister Cot seems to have had influence with the old Lord Rahl. If anyone was capable of giving the order, he is a likely candidate." she said with the certainty of one who knows how the system works, despite living outside of it her entire life.

Quelin sighed.
"well if it is true, he is dead and I no longer have purpose at this point. I killed Allister Cot days ago, when he begged me for his life after he tried to torture me to death. If you'll have me Lord Rahl, I wish to apologize for the attempt on your life, it was misinformed and incorrect. I offer you my services in payment of this debt. If I may though make one request in regard to my services. You can count on my undoubted and faithful service for the rest of my days until I draw my last breath, but have dealings with the Seeker of Truth. I would request the liberty in this service to find the seeker and speak with them. I wish the seeker no ill will, I only wish to obtain some information."

Deneric, having already sheathed his sword to make the man feel less threatened, waved off the two Mord-Sith with one hand and extended the other to the man.
"I am Deneric, and you deserve and will have all of the liberty you want. Your life belongs to you. We could use your help, and, to the best of our ability, we will help you in return. But the journey ahead of us will be hard, and it may be deadly. I would have you know that before you make any decisions to join us."

At Deneric's unspoken command, Sariah gently released Quelin's hair and took a small step back, though she was still within easy reach if she were needed. She let her agiel fall from her grasp, the thin leather rod dangling from its chain. Though she could have it back in hand and in position for a killing strike in around the same time it took to blink, she hoped that she wouldn't need it again for now.
